| The Project |

I decided that for the babies 1st Birthdays (My son, my niece, and my nephew), I'd create them each a "Busy Book". It's going to be sort of an activity book, where they have to undo buttons, zip zippers, snap snaps, use magnets, and a bunch of other fun activities. It will help them learn to match shapes, colors, and numbers. Each book will be slightly different, a more girly spin for my niece, Lily. A more boyish spin for my son Hayden, and my nephew Dawson.

Cupcakes, Cupcakes, Rah Rah Rah!

I finished Lily's Cupcake page, (I blogged a photo of it before it was finished)

Here it is, FINISHED! The cupcakes are attached with snaps!

Vroom! Vroom!

These pages were alot of fun to make... (and don't tell anyone, but Jason and I played with it already. Racin' around the roadways with the dinky cars. heh)

These pages will go in both boys' books. So much fun!

And of course, the car parks nicely inside the house. (which I realize isn't very realistic, but I didn't have much room to attach a garage too! lol)

Special Delivery!

I'm really thrilled with these pages.... they're the 'mailbox pages', and both Hayden and Dawson will be getting this one.

No real 'fastener' with this one, but I love how it's so special. The door of the mailbox opens to reveal 2 pieces of mail for each boy! With special letters from Mommy&Daddy/Auntie!

Looooove it!

The "letters" are made of 2 layers of white felt with a piece of thin cardboard between to make them more sturdy. I then bought some adhesive fabric that is meant for InkJet printers, and printed the envelope fronts/letters. For some reason the envelopes look 'dirty' in the pics, but they're really not in real life! (??)

... and the backs of the envelopes, just for fun. :o)

It's paper dolls... felt style!

This is Lily's 'dress-up' page, sort of like paper dolls.

It's not 100% finished, i'm waiting for my letters to arrive (I decided to order some from Etsy rather than cutting my own, too time consuming and I don't have a cricut to make it easier/nicer!) so these pages will say "Lily's Closet" on them.

I made a miniature braiding girl, and cut several outfits for the doll. These won't actually fasten to the doll, but will just sit on top and can be mixed and matched.

There's a skirt, jeans, long sleeved shirt, tank top, bra & panties, swimsuit, and pyjamas!

Too cute!

She's still missing a face, and I have to put the 'doorknobs' on the closet doors, which will help keep all the clothes tucked inside.

A is for Apple!

This is one of Lily's pages, it's the Apple picking page!

I'm still not entirely sure how i'm going to fasten the apples onto the tree, I think i'm going to try snaps, but not sure if it'll work!

Either way, she can pick the apples and put them inside the basket!

It's not totally finished, but you get the jist!

She sells sea shells by the sea shore.....

This is another of Lily's pages (can you tell i'm having WAY more fun making the 'pretty' ones? heehee)

It's more of a fun pretty page than a task one. This page will allow her to 'collect' the seashells and place them in the basket. The seashells are actually buttons, and will be hooked onto male-ended bra fasteners. (make sense?)

I haven't actually done the hooks yet, still have to find the right size, but here's the page so far:

Noah's Ark - Done and Done!

Well... sort of. I finished one of the Noah's Ark pages tonight. All 3 babies will be getting this page.

This was possibly the most time consuming page, as I had to make each individual tiny animal.

My hubby said to me "But on Noah's Ark there were TWO of every animal!"

Psshhhttt.... No thank you. This ark only has 5 animals, none of whom can procreate and that, is that. Tough titty because I think I spent 5+hours on the animals alone. lol The babies will have to learn to pretend to see double.

Noah's Ark - empty:

The animals!

The Animals just tucked inside!

The animals actually stored inside the pouch!

Please take note of my raindrops. These took me forever. :)

Lily's braiding page is complete!

I completed Lily's braiding page today, finished attaching the ribbons, and also gave her a face. :) This page will allow Lily to learn how to braid, as well as tie bows!

A whole lotta shapes!

I finished all 3 babies Shapes pages. These are velcro, and will help them learn to match colors and shapes!

ANOTHER doggy in the window!!

I finished Dawson's Puppy page today. Slightly different, but not much. Just a different collar, and different dog tag.

:)

And, the two puppy pages side by side:

How much is that doggy in the window?

Tonights project was the Puppy page. It took me FOR.EVAR. I spent 4 hours on it tonight, and only fully completed Hayden's, and I just have to assemble Dawson's. Both boys are getting this page, but will be slightly different. It will teach them how to click/unclick a buckle on the collar.

I'm really happy with this one, I think it looks awesome in person!

Twinkle Twinkle, Traffic Light!

This page will be in Dawson's book. It'll help with matching colors and using velcro, as well as learning the meaning of the traffic lights! (yes, I realize yellow does NOT = slow, but it's for kids, and i'm not really sure they'd understand the word "Caution")

Mary, Mary quite contrary... how does your garden grow?

So this is pretty much my very first 'finished' page! Of course, it's not assembled to any other pages yet. I absolutely LOVE it!

It'll allow Lily to learn how to button buttons, while making it a cute flower/garden scene.

One Scoop or Two?

So today I got most of the Ice Cream Parlor pages done! All 3 babies get this page, of course, a bit of a girly spin for Lily.

These will be attached with magnets, and they can stack as many flavors as they wish! Each 'parlor' will have an Ice Cream bucket, in which the 'scoops' will be stored in. (like a pouch!) And they can alternate colors/flavours, do a single scoop, or an octo-scoop! There are eight 'flavors' to stack!

And of course, what kind of ice cream cone would it be unless it had a cherry on top? :)

I'll also be stitching a 'waffle pattern' onto the cones.

Cupcakes! Mmm!

These little delicious looking cupcakes were a crapload of work. *sigh* I stuffed each of the muffin tops, and hot glued each individual rhinestone "sprinkle". Thank God I only have to do it for one book!

These will eventually have numbers glued onto the cupcake paper, and on the purple background, will have a number+velcro attached, so that it will be a sort of number matching/counting task.

So much got done today!!

So I finished cutting all the parts to the Noah's Ark pages, cut all the pieces for all three babies shape matching page, AND got *most* of Lily's braiding page done! I'm too lazy to take a pic of the Noah's Ark page, so you'll have to wait til later!!

Here are pics of the braiding page, and one of the shape matching pages!

Woot! Go me!

The shape matching page will be a velcro task, and the removable shapes will be matched to the shape attached to the background.

This is Lily's braiding page. I'm still not finished, obviously. I have to give the little girl a face, and attach ribbons to the bottom of the hair, so that when the hair is braided, they can be tied in bows!

The animals went in two by two....

... well, not in this case. But more like three by three, and each animal will be separated by a book. ;o)

Here's my first mini-project, and i'm THRILLED with how they turned out! Initially, I was going to just buy little animal finger puppets from Ikea, and decided to give it a whirl on my own, and I love them!

These little animals will appear on the Noah's Ark page (stay tuned to see the finished pages!) The giraffe is my favorite, it turned out to be SO cute!!!
